MICROSOFT Press Conference

Microsoft opened up with the premiere of Halo 4; displayed a dramatic live-action cinematic trailer then transitioning to its debut gameplay. From the debut gameplay, Master Chief encounters planet life forms that are hostile while hes on a rescue mission of a human fleet ship called the Infinity. There was no release date for Halo 4 but my guess is sometime in 2013.

The next game in line was Splinter Cell: Blacklist. This came to be a surprise that no one was expecting another Splinter Cell game after Conviction two years ago. Ubisoft Toronto is working on the development on the game and at the stage there was gameplay. Sam Fisher is back while the setting will take place in the Middle East. The game is gonna feature the compatibility of the Kinect with voice commands, co-op but wasn’t explained in detail, and bringing back spies vs. mercs multiplayer game mode from Splinter Cell: Conviction. The game is due to be released in Spring of 2013.

These next two sport franchise games will incorporate the ability of the Kinect with voice commands. First is FIFA 13. The kinect will enable a player to make substitutions, and defensive tactics. This ability promotes fluidity without pausing to take away the flow from matches. For Madden 13, Joe Montana one of the greatest Hall of Fame players came on stage to demo using voice commands. He called plays using his voice, set offensive tactics such as wanting a block ready before the snap and it worked flawlessly. Madden 13 is due for release August 23 of 2012.

Fable: The Journey was demoed. The kinect came into play with the user playing in a first person role but were minor clips. The game is due for release for the holiday of 2012.

Gears of War: Judgment is the next phase for the Gears of War franchise that will be developed by Epic Games. In the game trailer a new protagonist Baird will be the focal point as the story will be a prequel 14 years before the Gears of War 1 storyline. The campaign will be more action oriented than a scripted cinematic from the previous Gears games and lastly the multiplayer will impose a class system.

A new racing simulation Forza Horizon will be released on October 23 of 2012. The development team is Playground Games and the setting will take place in Colorado at a music festival.

This next bit is gonna deal with the entertainment concept of the Xbox 360’s dashboard. Regarding the movie app, Microsoft will be expanding Bing’s search for the latest movies available for users and have it also available for international countries. For the sports app, there are going to be partnerships with the NBA, ESPN and NHL providing convenient games in real time, accessible replays and sports analyst shows. With Xbox Music they are expanding their library with over 30 million tracks.

A health and lifestyle component is coming to the Xbox 360 for the holiday of 2012 called Xbox Fitness. Basically Nike is teaming up with Microsoft to use the Kinect to promote fitness training. Its going to have a social network community to compare one’s own workout to another. Boring.

This next new idea Microsoft introduced was called Xbox Smartglass. So really this concept was confusing to understand because it has nothing to do with gaming and didn’t care to listen.

So finally back to gaming. Tomb Raider was introduced with a fresh demo of the campaign. As a third-person action adventure game, the visuals were stunning, it grasps your attention like Uncharted’s visuals. The combat was excellent for Lara Croft displayed shotgun action and accurately spearing her enemies with crossbows. The game will be released in 2013 and is developed by Square Enix.

Capcom announced Resident Evil 6 as a downloaded game.

The creators of South Park Trey Parker and Matt Stone announced there is going to be a South Park game called The Stick of Truth.

Musical guest Usher literally performed on stage to promote Dance Central 3.

Lastly Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 developed by Treyarch demoed gameplay of a small bit of their campaign. The setting will be in Los Angeles and the graphics looked much sharper than Black Ops. The premise is you play as a soldier code name Section and your job is to protect the President of the U.S. While your protecting the President, chaos and destruction is collapsing the city of LA. Black Ops 2 will be released on November 13 of 2012.

EA Press Conference

EA started off with a Dead Space 3 gameplay trailer. Then it transitioned into a co-op demo. This was a first ever for the Dead Space series to feature co-op. This may cause controversy because it takes away from the scary, suspense factor of playing alone. Visceral Games must have sought to incorporate co-op and it will be successful regardless of the controversy. The main protagonist Isaac Clarke will be returning and with a buddy named John Carver who was featured in the co-op demo. The game will feature locations of space and a snow infested planet which was visually stunning in the demo. The game will be released in February of 2013.

Madden 13 was back again but they introduced their infinity engine. Their infinity engine is to portray run time physics to create a more realistic feel to the game. It will project different animations such as fighting for extra yardage off a tackle, tripping over your teammate or oppositions feet. One of the developers said about the infinity engine that it could change the outcome of every single play; with a realistic feel.
