Look who’s back. Arguably the most annoying character to fight against, Dhalsim is back with a whole new bag of tricks and rocking a wicked beard. On top of his long limbs and teleports, Dhalsim has new Yoga Fire traps. One is an arcing ball of fire, another is a his Yoga Flame that launches from the ground and can be used in the air and what seems to be is V-Skill is a flame carpet that unblockable but deals no hit stun either. He also has a phasing move that looks like his teleport stance. He can delay is movements in the air and even shift himself. Characters who could change trajectory in the air always throws people off. Dhalsim looks like he’ll be a monster in Street Fighter V and maybe even fun to play for once.
FanExpo Canada just wrapped up this weekend and as with most years I wandered over to the gaming section. I did play several upcoming games like, Guitar Hero Live, Street Fighter V (no thanks to the beta), Call of Duty: Black Ops III (wasn’t playing to but there was an open station and I was asked to play), Mario Maker and a few more here and there. The only game in the Xbox area that I played and didn’t have long lines was Cuphead, the upcoming indie game that had a fairly sizable presence at Microsoft’s E3 press conference this year.
Last year, Nintendo chose to forgo The the typical press conference at E3 and chose to have an extended live stream and playable demos of their hottest games. This year Nintendo brought something special back. The Nintendo World Championship was a tournament held in 1990 the United States. Contestants competed in various Nintendo games for the ultimate prize and title of Nintendo “World” Champion. This tournament is most likely remembered as producing the rarest NES cartridge, a custom cartridge made specifically for the finals. 25 years later Nintendo revived the tournament for E3 2015.
We’ve been seeing a lot of Batman Arkham Knight trailers but the “All Who Follow You” trailer so far has taken the cake. Batman has always had strong villains to fight against but we should never forget his greatest allies. Robin, Nightwing, Oracle, Catwoman, Gordan and more are heavily featured in this trailer and rightfully so. Batman and his team work wonders in unison and this game looks to be even bigger than they originally shown us. I cannot wait.
New Batman Arkham Knight gameplay footage was recently released and this game really does teaches the old dog new tricks. The freeflow combat has been expanded to take advantage of Batman’s new suit functions, enemy’s weapons and more ways to defend yourself. The gliding looks like it has a better sense of control than before and the Batmobile does a great job of getting you in and out of it quickly. This game is really putting out all of the stops. Let’s see where how far Arkham Knight will take the Dark Knight..
Life is Strange Episode 2 is almost here and we will be treated to the strange adventures of Max with her colorful and cheesy commentary. This trailer is way more than we got in the short preview at the end of Episode 1 and it looks awesome. This game looks great, has good production values and managed to be very compelling with out showing us to much of the bigger picture. I have high hopes for this series.
Finally, some more information for Persona 5 has finally been released. The new gameplay trailer shows off the new characters, the graphical and art style and the new gameplay features. The game seems to be borrowing characters and/or areas from Catherine too. The dungeon crawling aspects have been expanded, adding platforming mechanics and some special abilities. The day to day life gameplay is still present and social links are to be expected. Here’s hoping that Persona 5 comes sooner rather than later.
White Night is a new IP horror game that uses a film noir visual atheistic. Not much is shown of the gameplay but it’s nice to see a horror game that isn’t realistic or gritty looking.
Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 4 shows off gameplay of what seems to be apart of the story mode with Hashirama vs. Marada in the past. The battle shows off how flash the game is on the next gen consoles and it looks awesome.
I recently caught word of Blizzard’s upcoming new game, Overwatch. It’s a first person shooter with a Big Hero 6 feel in terms of animation and how it’s cinematic trail has presented its world. It’s appears to be aiming for a less “serious” tone of shoot that Team Fortress 2 has been doing for years but with more variety.
Not knowing beforehand what the game was, I wondered if this was a game or a movie trailer. I was very surprised that this is a Blizzard game because it’s so far outside of their wheelhouse. The thing that bugged me after watching the trailer is that the game is probably going to be a first person shooter. Blizzard seemed to be aiming for a youth and super hero enamored audience that it seems strange that they would attach it to a game about shooting and killing. The game is just cartoon violence and nothing gratuitous but it established itself so well as a would be superhero show or movie. But who knows, maybe if Overwatch does well Blizzard will take advantage of this thriving market. And if we’re especially lucky we will see Overwatch on cans and bottles of Mountain Dew.
