Have you had your fill of Fallout 4 yet? Probably not but Bethesda finally announced the first run of DLC for our favorite wasteland game. Automatron will retail for $9.99 on March, 2016. Wasteland Workshop will retail for $4.99 on April, 2016 and the largest DLC, Far Harbour will retail for $24.99 on May 2016. Bethesda has expanded on their original plans for their DLC therefore their Season Pass will increase in price. However if you buy the Season Pass before March 1 you will receive the announced and future DLC planned for release in 2016. If you’re at all interested in getting more Fallout then it’s in your best interest to buy the Season Pass to save yourself a lot of money, or you could wait for a Game of the Year Edition, whenever that will come out.
Microsoft was always done well for itself with its Xbox brand but it’s hard to deny that they haven’t started on the best foot with the Xbox One. What do they need to do to win customer favor again and can they do it with this press conference?
Nintendo released a step by step video for the launch of the New Nintendo 3DS and how to transfer your old system data between systems. This video is a bit misleading because it makes it seem that this is the only way to transfer your old data. You will ONLY have to open the new system to access the Micro SD hard if the original SD card (or data in it) is larger than the 4 GB micro SD card in the New 3DS. This can be done wirelessly between the two consoles but it does take a while.
I recently caught word of Blizzard’s upcoming new game, Overwatch. It’s a first person shooter with a Big Hero 6 feel in terms of animation and how it’s cinematic trail has presented its world. It’s appears to be aiming for a less “serious” tone of shoot that Team Fortress 2 has been doing for years but with more variety.
Not knowing beforehand what the game was, I wondered if this was a game or a movie trailer. I was very surprised that this is a Blizzard game because it’s so far outside of their wheelhouse. The thing that bugged me after watching the trailer is that the game is probably going to be a first person shooter. Blizzard seemed to be aiming for a youth and super hero enamored audience that it seems strange that they would attach it to a game about shooting and killing. The game is just cartoon violence and nothing gratuitous but it established itself so well as a would be superhero show or movie. But who knows, maybe if Overwatch does well Blizzard will take advantage of this thriving market. And if we’re especially lucky we will see Overwatch on cans and bottles of Mountain Dew.
Final Fantasy song DLC ended a few months ago. However DLC hasn’t completely ended. Tracks BRAVELY DEFAULT, SaGa Frontier, Romancing SaGa 1 & 2, Secret of Mana and Chrono Trigger have been added as DLC for the game.
This is exciting news because Squaresoft/Square-Enix has a fairly deep library of JRPG’s under their belt. If Square is known for anything else it’s their music. Now all Sqaure-Enix needs to do is add a preview function to their DLC store because I can tell you right now that I don’t know what a lot of these songs sound like.
This week in Xbox One news, Microsoft has come up with two brilliant ideas. Firstly, The Xbox One will start selling without the Kinect for a reduced price of $399. Secondly, streaming services like Netflix will no longer require Xbox Live Gold. It’s nice to see that Microsoft is making their console more appealing while seemingly doing less.
Rocksteady returns with their first trailer of the final installment of the Batman: Arkham series. A few details are revealed so far other than the Batmobile being drivable and the Scarecrow starting an all out war against the Dark Knight. Slated to come out some 2014 let’s hope that Rocksteady has even more to bring to the table down the line.
This past week at PAX Prime, the third installment of the Final Fantasy XIII series has been announced. Titled Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII-3 will take place hundreds of years after the end of FF XIII-2 which was hinted at the end of Lightning’s “Requiem of the Goddess” DLC released earlier this year. Lightning will be the sole playable character in the game. The battle system will be revised and become real-time where you can freely control Lightning in battle. The story will take to a new locals in the world of Novus Partus which is threatened by an incoming doomsday taking place in thirteen days. There will be a persistent countdown that will be affected by actions you take in the game.
Love it or hate it XIII-3 is deviating even more from what people want from a Final Fantasy game. Me however have always enjoyed the XIII series despite the flaws. There are worse JRPG’s out there and worse games that you may have or could have played than FFXIII. I do not know if Square-Enix had planned that the series to go this direction from the start but Lightning’s story will be coming to an end. Expect to see Final Fantasy XIII-3 some time in 2013
Leon and Chris return in the next chapter in the Resident Evil series. I’ve got to say it’s looking incredible. This looks like a massive step up from Resident Evil 4 and 5. The story seems to be broken up into three with Leon, Chris and a new unnamed mercenary character in the starring roles. Zombies finally make a return in the series and they are more versatile than ever. There are also new game mechanics that could possibly over complicate the controls but also give characters more control and freedom than ever.
Resident Evil 6 is set to be released November 20 2011.
