The Division is a game that I’ve been hearing about for years and it still has yet to release. I had little interest in the game prior to the open beta that appeared on the PlayStation Store earlier this week but I decided to give it a try. I did all of the story missions available to me and I leveled up enough to get into the Dark Zone, online portion of the game and my big questions is, what’s everyone so excited about?
FanExpo Canada just wrapped up this weekend and as with most years I wandered over to the gaming section. I did play several upcoming games like, Guitar Hero Live, Street Fighter V (no thanks to the beta), Call of Duty: Black Ops III (wasn’t playing to but there was an open station and I was asked to play), Mario Maker and a few more here and there. The only game in the Xbox area that I played and didn’t have long lines was Cuphead, the upcoming indie game that had a fairly sizable presence at Microsoft’s E3 press conference this year.
A home demo for Final Fantasy XV was released with the purchase of Final Fantasy Type-0 this week. I got my hands on the demo and played through it the other day. Is Final Fantasy XV something that fans should be worried about?
We’re soon approaching the end of the Arkham series with all of Batman’s rogue gallery arming themselves to finally bring down the bat. Batman has been in these situations before but with the Arkham Knight looming over the city will Batman win the night?
It’s hard to believe that Bayonetta 2 is right around the corner. A lot of buzz was generated around this sequel when it was first announced. Even if you didn’t play it or had issues with the character herself you knew what this game was and now it’s a Wii U exclusive. I have to applaud Nintendo for helping to get this game developed.
It’s funny that my only experience with Bayonetta is with the demo of the first game and my second experience is with the demo of the sequel.
The demo is short but straight to the point. After a short tutorial you’re killing angels on fighter jets, a train moving on a collapsing bridge and flying in the sky above skyscrapers. The combat controls feel great and the animations are fluid and awesome.
I’ve been playing a bunch of triple A action games in the past few months and Bayonetta 2 is better than most if not all of them. Bayonetta is strong, fast and completely in control. You never feel that the controls betray you and you know the reason why you got hit. The dodging gives you enough invincibility so you can attack as hard as you want with only your reactions to blame if you missed a dodge. Most importantly this game has a lot of style. Hitting enemies with giant high heeled feet and fists of hair is incredibly satisfying.
Bayonetta 2 looks to be a fantastic action game that stands out from all the hard core violent action games that surround it, hopefully the story won’t be so cheesy. This is a big win for Wii U owners and it’s another game to add to the short list of must haves on the console.
Where I live, we have had a Super Smash Bros Universe previews in a few of our Best Buys. Unfortunately I missed out on them. Fortunately for me Club Nintendo has sent me early access codes for being a Platinum member (which they failed to mention on their website) and I’ve been playing that for a few days. I’ve been avoiding news on the games so what I might says my be old news already but here’s what I felt.
The new gameplay trailer for Final Fantasy XV has just been posted from Tokyo Game Show. Say what you will about the series, there are a couple of interesting gameplay mechanics that are catching my interest. Game looks like it will feature real time combat, it looks like the type of action game combat that I wanted FF XII to have. The graphics look great, the environments look vast and the wildlife is huge and impressive. There are also a few subtle visual touches that adds a lot of realism that we don’t really get a lot of in games. No word on a release date but I’m looking forward to this one.
Finally the long awaited Persona 5 has a trailer. Not much is shown in the trailer but it will be released on the PS3 and PS4 in 2015 for Japan and hopefully North America as well. As much as we all love Persona 3 and 4 we can finally work with a new cast of characters.
The Warner Bros booth showed off a new zombie horror game Dying Light. Developed by Techland the developers of Dead Island created a new game similar yet separate to the series. Dying Light introduces new mechanics to the zombie survival genre.
Have you ever wanted to play a boss character? When you have, were you disappointed that they wouldn’t be as strong as they are when you play them. Evolve is a game lets a player be a real boss with the power to strike fear into the other players.
